My work is often based on observational drawing. The act of drawing results in simplifications of forms which influence the shapes and structure in my paintings.
The narratives in the work comes from visiting Mexico, where I drew town squares with brightly coloured buildings, arched entrances and long shadows. The scenes reminded me of Giorgio De Chirico's in which the viewer is left anticipating the action. I played with the cinema western clich� of a dramatic showdown, with tall shadows and sombreros
