Samantha Boulanger lives and work in Swyddffynnon in Ceredigion, Mid Wales and has just graduated with a BA (first class honours) in Fine Art at Aberystwyth University where she will begin an MA in September 2019.
Her passions are predominantly printmaking and photography, often combining the two along with other media to create hybrid prints and collages. More recent explorations have taken her into the historical photographic process of Cyanotype .
In printmaking inspiration comes from the natural world, woodlands, landscapes and animals. Also intrigued by the ordinary, often recreating what is seen as mundane into something unique and interesting.
“With my black & white photography especially, I am fascinated by the ambiguity and interplay between light and dark, shadows and reflections, textures and patterns, seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary.”
Samantha’s practice is driven by an innate curiosity and playfulness; experimenting with the process and exploring more closely texture, composition, colour, abstraction and the various interactions between printmaking and photography.
