Stockton Brook Studios is a new venture ... we are restoring an old stone barn to create studios for short courses in art, craft and design.
I was fortunate to be born into an artistic family, and to become a third generation Ceramic Designer. I live and work in North Staffordshire, in the old stone house where I grew up. As a child, surrounded by animals and nature, I always painted and made things. A BA Hons 1st in Surface Pattern at North Staffordshire Polytechnic led onto an MA Design in Ceramics from The Royal College of Art.
I was a designer in the famous Potteries for the wonderful ceramic company that was Minton, then became Art Director for 18 years at The Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Company. Together we created many new pieces of tableware, giftware and collectibles to be made in this wonderful historic factory.
I now work freelance again, exploring my fascination with pattern, colour and the natural world. I love to paint and explore new ways of looking at the world.
When I returned to my old family home, I was delighted to find treasure! Wonderful 1950s ceramic designs created by my Mum, Christina Serjeant, as well as beautiful watercolours that celebrate her love of flowers, interesting objects and ceramics. I am so happy to share these images as cards here next to mine. Christina .... Tina, went to Art school in Oxford when she left school then onto the Royal College of Art. She taught for many years at Leek School of Art, always continuing to paint, design and make pots.
