I live and work in an old, converted church in rural South Devon With my family and pets. I am lucky to be able walk on the beaches, moors and countryside locally and love to paint the wildlife and views I see. I paint with oils, acrylics, water colours, egg tempera and gold leaf. Gold leaf is fragile and tricky to use but perfect for capturing corn in fields, shadows rolling across fields or the sun shining on the sea.
My work is influenced by old Japanese paintings and Victorian collectors with their rooms of plant paintings and shell collections. I like the idea of bringing a bit of the natural world inside and try to record and share the small joys of the creatures, views and plants I see.
