About : Sylvie Maney - Artist based in Garboldisham, Norfolk

Having moved on from a career as a chemist/surveyor in the oil industry during the early 80’s, I decided to follow my passion for art and started taking art classes at my local adult community college. I learned techniques in watercolour, pastels, and acrylics. My tutor, and much respected artist, Glenda Birch, suggested I considered teaching art myself. So, after gaining teaching qualifications, I began teaching my own art classes at the same college in 1991. After several years teaching, I became a manager in the college. Eventually, knowing this career change didn’t suit me, I left the college and started teaching art classes privately; this and dog portrait commissions became my new career.

In 2018, after our children had grown and left home, My husband and I moved from Essex to Norfolk.

I still maintain a desire to teach art to others keen to learn, but more recently have also concentrated on developing my own painting style in a more expressive way. Exploring my various passions for landscape, particularly skies, ancient/prehistory and the wonders of the universe being unveiled to us by today’s new technologies. My skills with various mediums result mostly in contemporary mixed media works and prints produced using a gelatin plate, relating to my varied interests.

I am also a Professional Associate of the SAA;   https://www.saa.co.uk
