About : Ashpole Animal Art - Artist based in Chester, Cheshire

Welcome and thank you for looking at my artwork.

I am a zoo and wildlife veterinarian by profession but I have been a keen amateur artist since I was a young boy.

I have never drawn anything with the intention of selling it so what you see on this website is me dipping my feet into the art world for the first time to see whether anybody likes my scribbles and sketches.

I have never received any formal training in art or drawing but my day job as a veterinarian has encouraged me to take a closer look at my animal subjects and draw them as accurately as I can.

As a veterinarian and wildlife lover, I have been very fortunate to spend time visiting and working with animals in different countries around the world. Having spent some months working as a vet alongside Western lowland gorillas in Gabon, West Africa, they certainly occupy a special place in my heart. Since I was a young boy, I have also been fascinated by weird and wonderful animals, species which many people have never heard of or animals with unique anatomy, physiology or ecological behaviours, such pangolins, bats and giant anteaters.

If my work can stimulate observers to think more deeply about wild animal species and wildlife conservation then I will be very happy.

Thanks again for taking the time to look at my work.

 Best wishes, Ian
